Our Chairman & Chapter Representative Rev.
Dr. (Bishop) Albert L. Jamison, Sr.
is a native of Brooklyn. New York. He serves as the
distinguished Chairman of the Board of Directors of
the Gospel Music Workshop of America, the Chapter Representative
of the Eastern New York Chapter, as well as the Pastor
of Pleasant Grove Tabernacle in Brooklyn, New York,
where he holds the unique honor of Pastor in the church
of which he was born and raised.
Our Founder The Late Reverend James Cleveland known
as the King of Gospel founded the Gospel Music
Workshop of America. He gathered a small circle of gifted
writers, singers and instrumentalists in Philadelphia
in hopes of nurturing young talent and furthering the
development of the music he loved and devoted his life
to. He was a gospel singer, arranger, composer and, most significantly, the driving force behind the creation of the modern gospel sound, bringing the stylistic daring of hard gospel and jazz and pop music influences to arrangements for mass choirs.
Our Chapter The Eastern New York Chapter of Gospel Music Workshop
of America covers the New York City area, and is divided
in three major geographical districts. Each borough
has meeting schedules, programs and services, information
and outreach that will acclimate you fully as a member
of the state chapter. Consult with the local presidents
for borough information.
